Artist Statement

At its core, my work is about humanity.

It’s about our individuality, our purpose, and our connections. It’s about our experiences, and how they affect our relationship with art itself. It’s about our emotions and our imperfections.

I am fascinated by the fact that we are all essentially the same - biologically, chemically, atomically - but live completely different lives, each with our own significant purpose. I often explore this idea within my work by creating pieces that involve seemingly unrelated elements that rely on one another to make the work whole. My art invites viewers to study and appreciate the small details while recognizing the role they play in the overall design.

Although I use a variety of media in my work, my primary focus is in ceramics. Since the first time I touched clay, I have been captivated by this ancient process that allows me to use the four elements - earth, water, fire, and air - to create works of art. Clay’s willingness to be shaped and molded into endless forms inspires me to push the medium past all expectations.

Human engagement is the motive behind all my pieces. I want you to connect with my art in as many ways as possible. I want you to interact with my work. I want it to spark curiosity. I want it to expand your idea of what is possible. I want you to see your own potential through what I have created.
